Girnar ropeway is a ropeway located on the Girnar mountain in Junagadh district of Gujarat, India. It is the longest ropeway in Asia. Despite being proposed since 1983, construction began as late as September 2018 due to delays in government approval and court claims. It was built by Usha Braco Ltd. and is now managed by him. It was inaugurated on October 24, 2020
The paperwork for the ropeway project began in 1983. The Girnar ropeway is ready after overcoming many obstacles. Today the PTC on Bilkha Road in Junagadh The inauguration program of Kisan Suryaday Yojana and Girnar-Rope-Way was held at the college compound. In the presence of Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani, Tourism Minister Jawaharbhai Chavda and other ministers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Kisan Suryodaya Yojana and Girnar Ropeway Yojana.
Prime Minister Narendra Bhai Modi said that Girnar is a center of faith and tourism. There are Ambe Gurudattatreya as well as Jain temples. The man who climbed the steps and reached Girnar, reached there and felt absolute peace. Earlier it used to take four-five hours to reach Ambaji by climbing the steps. Now people can get there in 7-8 minutes by rope-way.
The operation of the ropeway will create new employment opportunities at the local level in Junagadh. And Girnar will become an adventure hub and more tourists will come.
Girnar is one of the major pilgrimage sites in Gujarat due to the presence of Ambaji Temple, Dattatreya Temple and many Hindu temples as well as many Jain temples.
